Professor Stephen Hopper AC FLS FTSE, a graduate of the University of Western Australia, joined the Kings Park and Botanic Garden as Director in 1992, and from 1999 to 2004 served as Chief Executive Officer of the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority. He achieved outstanding improvements in King’s Park during his time as CEO.
In 2006 he was appointed fourteenth Director of the renowned Royal Botanic
Gardens, Kew, in the United Kingdom. Professor Hopper is the first non-British person to become its director. He is now returning to Western Australia as the new Chair of Biodiversity at the University of Western Australia.
